The 49-year-old Cooper - no stranger to the musical biopic himself, coming off his Leonard Cohen biopic Maestro - was all smiles at the New York premiere.

He posed with with the 57-year-old filmmaker at the red carpet event, held at AMC Lincoln Square on Tuesday.

The film stars Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse, though it hasn't been getting the best of reviews, earning a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cooper stepped out in a white t-shirt under a slightly-unbuttoned black dress shirt with the actor sporting a scruffy beard.

He also wore dark grey Louis Vuitton dress pants with dark grey running shoes, while holding a black baseball cap.

Director Taylor-Johnson opted for a chocolate brown dress with two gold necklaces dangling around her neck.

She also accessorized with a number of silver earrings with a brown leather jacket over her dress.

The filmmaker - who tied the knot with 33-year-old Aaron Taylor-Johnson back in 2012 - completed her look with black pumps.

Taylor-Johnson's new film Back to Black follows the life of Amy Winehouse, named after the 2006 album which featured her worldwide smash hit, Rehab.

Winehouse won five Grammys for her breakthrough album, the first British woman ever to do so, though just a few years later she would pass away at just 27 years old.

Following her death in 2011 from alcohol poisoning, several different biopics tried to get off the ground, including one with Noomi Rapace set to star.
